Mississippi
Kite Ictinia mississippiensis Unlike many small raptors, Mississippi Kites never hover. They can be found gliding, banking, and wheeling in the wind, capturing small insects. These kites also eat mice, lizards, and frogs. Mississippi kites are highly social birds, and can be found in loose nesting colonies. They are agile enough to catch dragonflies! An Ogalalla golf course has been home to a small colony of nesting kites for several years. Recently, a new nest of Mississippi kites was found in Red Cloud, NE. |
