Harriers

  Northern Harrier
Circus cyaneus
Commonly known as the "marshhawk", northern harriers can be found searching wetlands and prairies of the United States for prey. Harriers are most easily identified by their white rump patch. While females and immature birds are a tawny brown color, adult males are a beautiful gray with black wing tips. Harriers have an oval face like owls. This conformation funnels sound to the ears, allowing them to use their hearing to key in on their prey in the tall grasses and wetland plants.
